Iowa City has much to offer from cultural experiences, to great food and plenty of outdoor activities. Yet, it's important to enjoy the break, and explore all of Iowa.

Not going anywhere for spring break but still want a grand adventure? Look no further, than your backyard (well Iowa’s backyard). There are plenty of adventures across the state.

Whether you’re looking for a day trip, or week long getaway, here are some ideas to make it a break to remember:

Des Moines: From outstanding food, trails, family-friendly attractions and cultural experiences this is a great place to go for a day trip, or even a weekend. While you’re there you can even drive a short distance south and visit the bridges of Madison County.

Great River Road National Scenic Byway: This 325-mile byway will provide beautiful panoramic views, and plenty of adventures through the parks and towns along the way to explore.

Dubuque: In Dubuque you can ride the steepest, shortest scenic railway, visit the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium, or even stay in their waterpark. And don’t forget to visit the Mines of Spain, or Crystal Lake Caves while you’re there.

Codfish Hollow Barnstormers: This barn-converted-music venue is located right outside Maquoketa, Iowa featuring live local and indie bands from across the country. See upcoming events here.

Quad Cities: From farmer’s markets, to a retro arcade bar, the Quad Cities has it all. Explore botanical gardens, rent a bike and bike along the Mississippi, try one of their many microbreweries or even explore Credit Island.
